DRUG AND ALCOHOL WORKPLACE ISSUES

Drug and alcohol issues can have a huge impact on safety and workplace productivity. In addition to understanding and pre-paring your workplace for the quickly changing laws around the use of marijuana, this session will provide information on various legal considerations surrounding possession and impair-ment, and conflicts between federal and state laws.

LABOR LAW 101

This session will cover the landscape, vocabulary, and issues facing supervisors and HR professionals, when working in a unionized environment. Content covered will be valuable, even if not currently working with unions, and to anyone considering taking the SHRM certification exams.

Presenters:
Brian K. Nichols, J.D. has extensive experience in labor law, federal Native American law and litigation, including tribal courts, with focuses on energy, natural resources, transportation, and employment. He has advised a wide range of clients in the public and private sectors and served as lead negotiator for BHP Billiton, the City of Albuquerque, and the City of Farmington. Best Lawyers in America seleted Brian as 2018 Native American "Lawyer of the Year" in Albuquerque. Brian received his law degree from Georgia State University.
Mia Kern Lardy, J.D. is an associate in the litigation group. Her legal interests include education law, tort cases, and employment mattesr. Her practice involves a substantial amount of work for a variety of school districts. She was an adjunct professor for a legal drafting class at the University of New Mexico School of Law and was recognized as a Southwest Rising Star by Southwest Super Lawyers in 2016. Mia received her law degree with a certificate in child law from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
